Where to Find the Best Lunch in Downtown LA

by admin July 11, 2021

It’s 12 PM on a Monday. Lunch is approaching, and you – ahem – “forgot” to meal prep the night before. You’re counting down the minutes until you can step outside and see the sunlight again. Daydreaming of the food options in the area, you begin to feel overwhelmed by the possibilities.

Also – was that an earthquake, or was that just the sheer violent force of your stomach rumbling?

You need to make a decision… and you need to make it fast. Before you become one of those hangry people they make fun of in Snickers commercials.

For two years, I worked in Downtown Los Angeles, and without these go-to choices for lunch, there are days where I’d be lost. Overcome with intolerable hanger. A nuisance to all those around me, really.

To anyone else who finds themselves in a similar position, or if you just want to find a great place to eat in Downtown Los Angeles, I’ve got you covered. Check out the list below of my favorite spots to eat in Downtown LA.

How Long Does It REALLY Take to Learn French?

by admin July 5, 2021
How long does it take to learn French? A guide to how I learned basic French

When I first began learning French as a second language, I had one burning question on my mind. How long does it really take to learn French?

It seems this is a common question. After all, it’s totally normal to wonder how long it’ll take before you start seeing returns on your time investment. It’s difficult to dedicate many hours of learning a new language, especially when we all want to see quick results as a reward for our hard work.

Honestly, humans aren’t so great with uncertainty, and it’d be nice if we could predict with certainty how long it would take to learn French.

However, as with most skills, it’s difficult to answer how long it’ll take for you. After all, what does “learning French” really mean to you? Would you like to know the core basics so that you can get around France while knowing how to ask where the toilets are en français? Are you looking to be conversational, so that you can easily have conversations in French with friends? Do you need to converse in French for business meetings or business trips? Perhaps fluency is your eventual goal, either because you’re looking to emigrate or simply because you have a passion for linguistics.

The most important thing to first define is your level of “done.” When will you know if you’ve “learned French”? Only you can say, based upon the goal that you’ve set for yourself.

Pour moi, my goal was to learn the absolute basics, so that I could take a trip to France with confidence in my ability to speak the language as a beginner. Here in this post, I’ll share with you how long it took to learn beginner French.

The 9 Best Weekend Trips from Los Angeles

by admin July 3, 2021
Weekend Trips from Los Angeles

Sometimes, you simply need a weekend trip away from Los Angeles. LA is a city with a lot to offer, but let’s face it – living here can be tiring. Between the traffic, crowds, and generally fast pace of living, there are plenty of days where I feel like I need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life.

It’d be nice if you could book a long vacation to a far-off destination, but that’s not always realistic. Sometimes, all you might have time for is a short weekend getaway. Maybe you only have two days to explore, or maybe you have a little extra time thanks to a holiday or a day of PTO.

No matter the circumstances or time constraints, here are my top picks for the best weekend trips from Los Angeles.

One Day in Brooklyn: Where to Eat and What To Do

One Day in Brooklyn: Where to Eat and What To Do

Only have one day to explore Brooklyn, NY? OK – don’t panic, here’s what you gotta do!

If you’re visiting New York City, no doubt you’ll also want to dedicate some time to exploring the other borough, Brooklyn. Although there are tourist attractions abound in Manhattan, it’d be a shame to spend your entire trip in the city and miss out on what these Brooklyn neighborhoods have to offer.

I get it, though. Sometimes, you’re tight on time, and there’s so much to do in a city such as NYC!

For example, back in 2019, I took a trip to New York City. The vacation was incredibly short; I took a red-eye flight from Los Angeles to New York City over a long weekend, which meant I only had about 2 days to explore before my return flight.

Luckily, I was able to dedicate a whole day to exploring Brooklyn, and now I feel like I’m a pro at fitting in a lot of attractions in only one day. So without further ado, if you only have one day to spend in Brooklyn, read below for a one day itinerary you can follow with recommendations for food and activities.

How to Use Google Maps to Plan Your Vacation

How to Use Google Maps to Plan Your Vacation

Picture this. You’re walking around in a new city for hours upon hours. Feet tired and stomach grumbling, you wonder where you can grab a bite to eat. You browse online for a few moments, before tiring from decision fatigue and end up stumbling into a fast-casual place with mediocre food.

I’m sure that in some cities, you can wander into any ‘ol restaurant and get the best food of your life. But the point is, it doesn’t need to be this way. There is a better way. There is a less risky way.

Now imagine: you’re walking around in a new city for hours upon hours. Your stomach lets out a soft rumble, and you pull out your phone to a conveniently mapped out application, filled with pin-drops of places you’d like to eat. Magically, you can also use this application to give you directions towards this saved location, at your command.

Ahhhhh. Now that’s more like it.

This, too, can be your reality if you use Google Maps to plan your vacations. Read along, and I’ll show you how it’s done.

Just Say Yes to Wine Tasting with Peacocks

by admin September 12, 2019September 12, 2019
Wine tasting in San Luis Obispo with peacocks

Imagine… it’s a picturesque summer day. The sun is shining, with an occasional breeze that makes you sigh and think, Ahh, this weather is perfect. You’re in the mood to sip on fine, fine wine in a beautiful outdoor setting. Suddenly, a thought enters your mind – one that’s inspired by that classic Katy Perry song.

“I wanna see a peacock.”

If you’re in the mood for all that’s listed above, I know where you need to go: Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards in San Luis Obispo, where over 150 wild peacocks roam the premises.

A short drive from where we were staying in beautiful Avila Beach, Kelsey Vineyards is open to the public daily for wine tastings. This includes limited hours on major holidays. So, you know what that means… you can get New Year’s off to the best start ever, surrounded by wine and peacocks.

Curious? Don’t blame you. Read below for all you need to know before you go.

What If We Lived This Way Every Day?

by admin September 8, 2019September 8, 2019
What If We Lived This Way Every Day?

There is something I’ve been noticing lately.

It’s a thought. A thought that has been slowly sneaking up behind me. Throughout the passing weeks, I’ve gotten used to ignoring the treading footsteps, as this thought approaches closer and closer.

Then, ever so gently, this thought taps me on the shoulder.

Sorry, you’re going to have to do better than that, because I’m great at ignoring taps on the shoulder.

Days pass and suddenly, this thought is screaming at me. It’s no longer something I can ignore.

Lost the Excitement for Your Travel Goal? 5 Q’s to Re-Ignite the Spark

Staying focused on a goal: it’s a struggle.

Anyone who has formed a goal will know that the carefully crafted plan doesn’t always go “according to plan.” With any goal, it becomes more and more difficult to stay focused when the initial rush of creating the goal has faded.

But let’s face it: when it comes to travel goals – particularly goals that will require a lot of time & savings – it’s important to remain consistent with your daily efforts.

One of the best ways to stay focused? Get excited. After all, when we’re excited by the potential of achieving something, putting in the work towards the goal doesn’t feel as much like a miserable slog.

If you’re not feeling excited about your goal, or the initial motivation has faded, it’s time to re-ignite that spark. Here are five questions to ask yourself if you feel like you’ve lost that lovin’ feelin’ towards your goal.

Don’t Leave Oahu Before You Eat These 9 Dishes

by admin March 12, 2019September 29, 2019
Must-Eat Alert: Don't leave Oahu before you eat these 10 dishes...

As I mentioned in a previous post, eating is one of my biggest motivations to travel. My tastebuds get bored easily, so I’m constantly on the look-out for something new and exciting. There are very few things I wouldn’t try at least once.

It’s funny… I was the exact opposite when I was a child. You see, I would infamously only eat plain hamburgers. We’re talking plain. Not an ounce of cheese, ketchup, mayonnaise… nothing. Just a dry hamburger patty and an untoasted bun.

Oh, how things have changed. Now, I eat my way through every new city I visit. (Trust me, it’s better this way.)

Today I’m talking about the island of Oahu, Hawaii, and all of the best dishes I ate during my visit. Don’t leave Oahu without trying these 9 delicious dishes…
