Feeling beachy? Oahu is the place to be. With a multitude of beautiful spots along the shore, you could spend an entire trip exploring beach after beach, each with their own landscape and unique qualities.
Even though you could simply drive around and explore, certain beaches are must see’s. These are the ones that you don’t want to miss under any circumstances. Unless – of course – you’re looking for a convenient excuse to come back to Oahu. (Not that you’d need one!)
Anyway, don’t worry – I put together a list of my favorite beaches on the island. This way, you can enjoy vacation without worrying about FOMO. Keep on reading to see my recommendations on the best beaches to visit while in Oahu.
#1 – Lanikai Beach

My thanks to him for uploading this image to Unsplash and allowing bloggers such as myself to feature it!)
Why You’ll Want to Go…
First of all, it’s stunning. All you need to do is scroll up for proof. Most famously, Lanikai is known for its gorgeous views of the Mokulua Islands (pictured above).
Not only that, but it’s also a great area for kayaking. During my visit to Hawaii, I rented kayaks at the nearby Kailua Beach Adventures, and paddled my way towards Lanikai from there. As soon as I reached the shore of Lanikai, I took a break to dip in the water and snorkel. If you’re lucky, you may spot a wild sea turtle as you swim around.
While you’re in the area, you can also take the Lanikai Pillbox Hike. After a short 30 minutes to the top, you are greeted with beautiful ocean views. Well worth the workout.
Where to Find Lanikai Beach:
1020 Mokulua Dr.
Kailua, HI 96734
#2 – Waikiki Beach
Why You’ll Want to Go…
Waikiki is right in the heart of Honolulu, which means this beach is lined with hotel after hotel. For this reason, it certainly can be one of the most crowded beaches in Oahu. Don’t let the crowds deter you, though. With it’s stunning views of Diamond Head – one of Oahu’s most recognizable landmarks – it’s a must for good reason.
Take a walk along the shore during sunset, right after enjoying a bowl of udon from Marukame Udon. If you visit right after a rainstorm, you may be lucky enough to see a rainbow perched above Diamond Head.

#3 – Laniakea Beach AKA Sea Turtle Beach
Why You’ll Want to Go…
You don’t want to leave Hawaii without a sea turtle spotting, do you? That’s what I thought… Laniakea Beach is the one for you. This popular spot is also known as “Sea Turtle Beach” because so many sea turtles come ashore to sunbathe. They sure know how to live the good life.
While you’re on the North Shore, don’t forget to order some garlic shrimp from Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. Or if you need some more ideas for how to spend one day on the North Shore? I’ve got you covered.
Where to Find Laniakea Beach:
574, 61-574 Pohaku Loa Way
Haleiwa, HI 96712
#4 – Banzai Pipeline
Why You’ll Want to Go…
Surfer-watching, anyone?
If you’re looking for one of the best places to watch skilled surfers do what they’re best at, Banzai Pipeline can’t be missed. Hundreds of surfers per year flock to the Pipeline in Oahu to test out their skills. Master the art of riding the wave, or the wave will wipe you out.
When you visit, expect to hang out on the sand and watch the pros at work. This beach isn’t for the beginner surfer, or the person looking for a calm swim.
Where to Find Banzai Pipeline:
59-473 Ke Waena Rd.
Haleiwa, HI 96712
#5 – Ko Olina Lagoons
Why You’ll Want to Go…
Oh so calming. Oh so relaxing… the Lagoons at Ko Olina have tranquil waters, perfect for a leisurely swim.
Because the lagoons are attached to resorts, many don’t know that the Ko Olina Lagoons also offer access to the public. So even if you’re not staying at one of the local resort properties, come early or late in the day (for a better chance at nabbing a free parking spot), and enjoy the tranquility.
Where to Find the Ko Olina Lagoons:
Olani St
Kapolei, HI 96707
#6 – Queen’s Surf Beach
Why You’ll Want to Go…
Queen’s Surf is the closest beach to the Honolulu Zoo and Diamond Head, meaning it’s the perfect way to end a day of hiking and exploring the zoo. Since it’s on the other side of Waikiki Beach, this spot also has great city views of the hotels along Waikiki.
Make sure to come in time for sunset. Walk along one of the short piers, and sit at the end to watch the boats sail by as the sun says aloha for the day.
Where to Find Queen’s Surf Beach:
2715 Kalakaua Ave
Honolulu, HI 96815
